ASHBOURNE AZTECS U15   9 – 0   SHERWIN U15

Aztecs started well passing the ball with accuracy and carving out some good chances, on five minutes CARTER ran the ball forward and as the keeper came out lobbed the ball over him and into the net to open the scoring. Edmondson played a through ball and COXON was onto it and lobbed the ball over the keeper for No 2. Lynn had a powerful shot parried by the keeper and EDMONDSON headed the rebound back into the net. Waring crossed into the area, the ball was cleared out for COXON to fire in a spectacular over head kick into the back of the net. Sherwin did push forward, the back four of Wibberley, Partridge, Jackson and Greatorex broke up every attack and soon had the ball forward to mid field to attack again. A great run from mid field by SEARS saw a great shot from 25 yards, the keeper getting a hand to it but unable to keep it out for 5-0 at the break.

Sherwin started the stronger creating some chances Donnelly saving well on a number of occasions, again Aztecs played some great passing football and NEWBOLD let drive from 25 yards into the bottom corner for 6-0. Good play from Taylor found CARTER who shot from 10 yards with such venom the keeper could only turn it onto the post and in. WARING who had been a thorn in Sherwin’s side all day eventually got his chance off a through ball and a 50/50 with the keeper getting a foot in first to guide it into the net for no 8. Aztecs play was at times excellent the keeper making some fine saves to keep the score down but after good build up play Newbold crossed in for CARTER to pick his spot with a fine header for his hatrick and Aztecs No 9. It was a great result but the best part was the quality of the play from all the lads, we just need to take this performance into the next match. Man of the match was awarded to Jack Carter for his three goals and great support and constructive football.

Team: Donnelly, Wibberley, Partridge, Greatorex, Jackson, Lynn, Edmondson, Carter, Sears, Coxon, Waring, Newbold, Taylor.

MATCH REPORT SUNDAY 14th FEBRUARY

AZTECS U15 – 0 / 1 – SPONDON DY YOUTH U15

Aztecs started well against the top of the league team pushing them back into their own half Jackson Coxon and Greatorex all pulling saves from the keeper. Gradually Spondon put their mark on the game Carter in goal made two excellent saves firstly a powerful free kick turned over the bar then a goal bound shot beaten away. The rest of the first half was aggressively contested with some crunching tackles going in, Wibberley, Sears, Partridge and Waring in defence cleaned everything up and the mid field of Campbell, Jackson, Edmondson and Austin fought for every scrap of the ball, Greatorex looked to have opened the scoring but another fine save kept the score goalless at the break.

Aztecs again started very strong but could not break the deadlock, Spondon broke quickly and looked very dangerous as they have players who can finish but Ashbourne still looked the likeliest to score. Turner, Newbold and Lynn added new vigour to the attack which pushed forward in numbers trying for the goal which would settle the match but a quick break saw Spondon home in on gaol Carter saved the first shot brilliantly but the ball was played back in and in the scramble Spondon managed to stab the ball home for what turned out to be the winner. Aztecs tried in vain for the equalizer but it was Spondon who took all the points. A disappointing result but a very strong and gutsy performance from the whole team who over the whole of the match were the strongest side against one of the best sides in the first division. Man of the match was awarded to Jordan Campbell for a strong and tireless  performance in the mid-field. TEAM:  Carter, Wibberley, Sears, Partridge, Waring, Campbell, Edmondson, Jackson, Austin, Coxon, Greatorex, Turner, Newbold, Lynn.

MATCH REPORT FOR SUNDAY 24TH JAN

BELPER TOWN JUNIORS U15  1  -  1  ASHBOURNE AZTECS U15

Play started even with both sides testing each other out. Aztec’s defenders Wibberley, Partridge, Sears and Austin dug in and supplied the mid field with good service enabeling them to gain the better hand and create good chances. On ten minutes Greatorex crossed for COXON to smash home the opening goal for Aztecs. Campell, Edmondson, Jackson and Lynn all worked hard on a heavy pitch but could not add to the score, Turner and Newbold added fresh legs to the play but it remained 1-0 at the end of the first half which the Ref mistakenly cut short by 5 minutes. Belper started the second half well and the game ebbed and flowed with both teams going close. Carter made a couple of saves but wasn’t troubled at all, Campbell broke away but the keeper saved well, Greatorex broke through but shot wide, With 35 minutes on the clock Belper fired in a free kick which struck Edmondson on the arm the Ref pointed to the spot. The kick was taken well just inside the post giving Carter no chance. Aztecs Kicked off and the Ref blew up for full time again cutting the half five minutes short which was very disappointing. Yes the rules do say that each half has to be the same time but there was no reason when I pointed out his mistake at half time with all the players still on the pitch he could  have played the full 40 minutes. It was a disappointing result but again missed chances have cost us points. Man of the match was awarded to Liam Jackson for a full blooded performance in mid-field.

Team: Carter, Wibberley, Partridge, Sears, Austin, Campbell, Edmondson, Jackson, Coxon, Lynn, Greatorex, Newbold, Turner.
